The Easton Project Easton is a 6,400-acre residential and commercial development planned by GenCorp Realty Investments. Two communities within this planning area are located within Sacramento County: Glenborough at Easton and Easton Place. These planning areas are located along the south side of Highway 50 between Hazel Avenue and Prairie City Road. The project encompasses a complex set of land reuse challenges left from decades of gold dredging going back to the late 1800s, followed by more than 50 years of Aerojet’s aerospace operations, which are still active today. It also poses a unique opportunity to reclaim barren land into vital housing, recreation and commercial uses. The Sacramento County Planning and Community Development Department received the application for the Glenborough and Easton Place from property owner GenCorp, Inc. in January 2004. The size of the project and the number of county departments involved prompted Sacramento County to enter into an historic planning partnership with GenCorp Realty Investments. The County hopes to employ experiences gained from this planning partnership to create a streamlined process that can be applied to future infill and development projects. This type of planning partnership is expected to result in better communities for the region with increased efficiency for companies doing business with Sacramento County. |
