About Us

On March 25, 2004, Sacramento County reorganized its agencies and departments to better deliver municipal services to residents of the unincorporated* areas of Sacramento County.

The Agency is comprised of 11 departments and employs approximately 2400 of the County’s total 14,000-plus workforce.

To bring services directly to the neighborhoods, local service centers were opened in
North Highlands and in Fair Oaks. These centers offer services such as buidling inspection, planning, traffic control and more to all county residents.

 * What is unincorporated? The dictionary defines unincorporated as any area not chartered as a self-governing village or city; lacking the tax, police, and other powers conferred by the state on incorporated towns: an unincorporated hamlet. In Sacramento County, unincorporated refers to those communities outside the cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento. The Municipal Services Agency provides municipal or city services such as water, sewer, roads, animal care, and refuse pick-up.
