Building Inspection is
continuing to improve
its services to our customers. In addition to checking
the status of your permit, we now offer the ability for you to
see exactly what stage of the process your permit is in and you
now have the ability to schedule inspections on-line!
Building Inspection, is a section of the
Construction Management
and Inspection Division of the Department of County Engineering, which in turn is a
sub-unit of the Municipal Services Agency. We provide building
inspection and site development review services for all private
development within the unincorporated area of Sacramento County.

Building Inspection currently has staff in
offices around the County to serve you depending on
your needs.
Job opportunities cover a wide range of specialties, including engineers and
architects, building inspectors and engineering technicians, and clerical
support.
Like the other Municipal Services Agency's units, Building Inspection is
proactive in developing and improving its quality of service. It is the first
unit in the County to attain a "Malcolm Baldrige" type award. We also won an
"honorable mention" in the CSAC competition.
Building Inspection is at the forefront of technology. Permit Issue, Plan
Review, Site Development, and Building Inspections are connected by computer,
enabling multiple-use access to databases of the Division and other regulatory
entities.
New electronic tools enable Building Inspection to offer faster and more
convenient services. Plans are underway to implement a system which will enable
the customer to apply for, pay for, and receive some types of permits via the
internet.
In addition to their regular duties, Building Inspection employees are actively
involved in building code development and volunteer services benefiting the
community:
- Organizational Chart
- Our employees teach building-related classes at the local colleges,
and/or multi-jurisdictional workshops for building inspectors and plan
reviewers.
- Inspectors have contributed to the "Ask the Inspector" column for the
Sacramento Bee Newspaper.
- Others have volunteered to work at:
- Sandbag distribution Sites
- Disaster Assistance Centers
- Performed levee watches in the event of flood alerts.
