About the New Juvenile Courthouse

An artist's conception of the new Juvenile Courthouse. The building has been sited to create a campus setting on the east side of the Youth Detention Facility. A Plaza is planned for construction to link the courthouse to the existing facility.

Six courtrooms are currently housed in the new courthouse, expanding to eight courtrooms by the year 2020. Private interview rooms, public lobbies, and children's waiting area are other features of the new building.
The new courthouse has received a design award for excellence from the American Institute of Architects, Orlando chapter.
Who's Who on the Project
The Architectural Services Division Project Manager for the County on this project was registered architect Janet Cornelius. The Juvenile Courthouse was designed by DLR Group Vitiello.
What does the Architectural Services Division do?
The Architectural Services Division (ASD) of the Department of Facility Planning, Architecture and Real Estate within the Internal Services Agency has overall responsibility for the management of this project. The ASD is made up of over 40 people, of which 16 are licensed architects and engineers. The ASD project manager has many responsibilities including:
- Establishing the Project Direction and Scope of Work.
- Writing the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), and interviewing and selecting consultant architects and engineers.
- Negotiation of fees and scope of services.
- Coordination with other City, County, State, and Federal agencies.
- Overall Project Management from feasibility and conceptual design and budget, through construction completion and client move in.
- Designing the project or overseeing the consultant firms hired to design the project.
- Management of many aspects including architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and interior design, as well as specialty consultants as each job requires.
- Participating in the preparation of environmental impact reports.
- Meeting with the community to provide information on the project.
- Overseeing that the appropriate approving agencies, regulations, and laws are followed.
- Presentations to the Board of Supervisors for project direction and approval.
- Overseeing the bidding process.
- Interfacing with contractors on construction issues.
- Assessing the current and future demands for design and construction services.
- Establishing and maintaining the project budget.
