THE PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT serves the County by administering the County's land use planning programs. For more detailed information, click on each section name to visit their web pages.

Inquire about the availability of documents in alternate formats.

  • COUNTY–WIDE PLANNING services, including updating of the Sacramento County General Plan.
  • SPECIFIC AND COMMUNITY PLANNING services, including preparation and adoption of a series of Specific and Community Plans.
  • CURRENT PLANNING AND ZONING services, including zoning information and review of private development projects and processing to the various hearing bodies.
  • COMMUNITY PLANNING ADVISORY COUNCILS have been created in the unincorporated area of the County to facilitate and invite direct citizen participation in the planning processing involving the present and future development policies affecting their communities.
  • COMMUNITY PLANNING COUNCILS have been formed as a pilot project to provide decision-making authority to a panel of residents appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Each Council functions as a County Planning Commission and meet monthly.
  • PLANNING REVIEW includes discretionary and non-discretionary hearing bodies for land use, zoning, and related issues. Agendas, calendars, and minutes are provided.
