Businesses

The Sacramento County Department of Waste Management and Recycling operates a permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility for Sacramento County residents. As part of this facility’s service, hazardous wastes generated by businesses classified as Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG’s) will be accepted by appointment.

Note: City of Sacramento businesses and apartment managers should call 916-379-0500 x209, for information about hazardous waste disposal.

CESQG Definition

By law, a CESQG is defined as a business that produces less than 220 pounds (approximately 27 gallons) of hazardous waste or 2.2 pounds of extremely hazardous waste per month.

Legal Transportation Limits

The County can legally accept up to 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste or 2.2 pounds of extremely hazardous waste from a CESQG in one month. However, California State Law prohibits the transportation of more than five gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous waste without a hazardous waste hauler’s license. Therefore, to transport more than five gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous waste to the Sacramento County facility, a transportation variance obtained by the Department of Waste Management and Recycling from the State of California must be carried in the transporting vehicle. Such a variance will be provided to the CESQG when an appointment is made for disposal.

Hazardous wastes must be transported in spill and leak proof containers, clearly labeled as to their contents. Containers cannot exceed five gallons in capacity.

When/Where/How

CESQG waste will be accepted on any Friday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Beginning October 1, 2007, the Commercial Customer appointments will be scheduled for an Wednesday of the month.)

The location for CESQG disposal is the North Area Recovery Station at 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands. The County of Sacramento will accept CESQG by appointment only with no exceptions. Interested parties must contact the CESQG Program Manager at (916) 876-9458 at least five (5) days in advance to schedule an appointment.

Please note that all wastes brought to the facility must be those indicated by the generator with no deviations from the inventories initially provided. All payments must be made by check or money order only at time of disposal. Checks must be payable to: Sacramento County Department of Waste Management and Recycling.
