Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Centers
Sacramento County residents can bring household hazardous waste (HHW) to the North Area Recovery Station free of charge. For more information about this program please call Customer Service at 916-875-5555.

- Keep products in their original containers. Do not mix products. Make sure lids are tightly sealed. Label materials that are not in their original containers.
- Place leaking containers in a larger, plastic container with a tight-fitting lid.
- Secure products upright in cardboard box so that they do not tip over in transport.
- Transport products in the back of a pickup truck or in a car trunk. Ensure adequate ventilation if transported in car passenger compartment.
- Keep flammables out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat, spark, flame, or ignition.
Do not smoke.

Acceptable & Unacceptable Materials
Materials delivered to the drop-off area by residents cannot exceed a total
liquid volume of 15-gallons or a total dry weight of
125-pounds. CA Code 25218-25218.12

- Fluorescent tubes
- Propane tanks (barbecue style, limit 2, maximum 7-gallons)
- Cooking Oil
- Other types of household hazardous waste are also accepted
(15-gallon or 125 lbs. maximum each)

The Sacramento Recycling and Transfer
Station also accepts household hazardous waste from the
public. Call 916-379-0500, to determine if you are
eligible to drop off material at this facility.
