The following links are to State or Federal agencies that can
provide additional information about waste management and recycling issues.
The Environmental Management Department provides mandated regulatory
services and is fully supported by fees and outside revenues.
The mission of CAL-EPA is to restore, protect and enhance the environment,
to ensure public health, environmental quality and economic vitality.
The mission of the CIWMB is to reduce waste, promote the management of
all materials to their highest and best use and protect public health and safety and the
environment, in partnership with all Californians.
CalMAX is a free service designed to help businesses find markets for
non-hazardous materials they have traditionally discarded. CalMAX helps businesses,
industries and institutions save resources and money.
The DTSC protects California and Californians from exposure to hazardous waste.
More then 1,000 scientists, engineers and support staff work in nine offices statewide.
DTSC is a department of the California Environment Protection Agency.
The DOC administers the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter
Reduction Act (Act). The primary goals of the Act it to achieve and maintain high recycling
rates for each beverage container included in the program. The DOC provides a number of services
to achieve these goals, including enforcement, auditing, grant funding, technical assistance
and education.
EPA provides leadership in the nation’s environmental science, research,
education and assessment efforts. EPA works closely with other federal agencies, state and
local governments and Indian tribes to develop and enforce regulations under existing
environmental laws.
