Sacramento County Stormwater Quality Program staff participate in a
variety of community and environmental events. These educational events
offer valley residents a chance to learn about stormwater pollution
prevention and ways they can help keep our environment clean.
Landscape and Nursery Expo (January) -
Businesses from all around participate in this annual event. Residents
can learn various landscape techniques as well as purchase supplies,
equipment, and attend educational seminars.
Eco-Landscape Show (February) — This
conference addresses trends and techniques to meet
the challenges of landscaping. Includes keynote
speakers, workshops, trade shows, and new business
opportunities.
Creek Week (April) — This annual, one week event works to clean up local
creeks in the Sacramento region. Besides cleaning up the environment,
Creek Week educates the public on the importance of healthy urban
creeks. The event concludes with a 'Clean Up' followed by a celebration
at the Discovery Museum.
Earth Day (April) — Earth day is a fun-filled event with
educational activities, music, and demonstrations designed to educate
people about environmental issues. It is held at
Cosumnes River College
and California State University at Sacramento.
Walk on the Wildside (May) —
This annual family event highlights local efforts that protect native
Central Valley habitats and wildlife. The event features guided tours of
the
Sacramento Regional County
Sanitation District (SRCSD) Bufferlands and Stone Lakes National
Wildlife Refugee educational exhibits, activities for adults and
children, and live animal presentations.
Get WET
(Spring) — This
family-oriented event includes games, activities, and interactive
displays that demonstrate the importance of the American River.
River City Run (Spring)
— Sign up to run or walk for your health and celebrate the Earth at the
finish line with music, exhibitors, and activities for the entire
family.
American River Salmon
Festival (October) — An exciting two-day event filled with
entertainment, education activities, music, fly fishing and culinary
demonstrations as well as guided river walks.
The Stormwater Management staff offer free presentations to schools, community
groups, resident associations and government organizations. These
presentations can be customized and typically run under 20
minutes. Educational handouts are included.
