News and Features | - Local Creeks Photo Contest – Sacramento County Department of Water Resources is calling all amateur photographers to take photos of local creeks for a chance to be featured in the 2010 Sacramento County Creeks Calendar. The contest is open to students between the ages 8-18 years old and the deadline to submit is August 12, 2009. For details on how to enter, visit the Creek Photo Contest website.
- Proposed Remapping of Levees in Sacramento County - FEMA has identified the levees currently being considered for provisional accreditation and has asked levee owners and maintenance districts if they believe their levees are certifiable to federal levee standards 44CFR65.10. Read FEMA’s letter. For provisionally accredited levees, the levee owners and maintenance districts will have two years to gather all field data and engineering reports to certify the levees or FEMA will de-accredit them. If you plan to build a new structure or substantially improve an existing structure, please refer to the County’s Floodplain Management Ordinance. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors held a public meeting on Oct 29, 2008 at the Jean Harvie Community Center in Walnut Grove to take public comment on issues involving the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan and the Delta Vision. Read for more information
- Natomas Building Permits - The proposed modified flood elevation determinations affecting the Flood Insurance Rate Map and Flood Insurance Study for Sacramento County is considered final. The final Base Flood Elevations will be published in the Federal Register as soon as possible and the new maps will be effective December 1, 2008. For details, read the FEMA letter.
